Rental Property Tax in Australia 2025
Rental income is assessable income and must be declared in your tax return. However, most expenses relating to your rental property are tax-deductible, and if your expenses exceed your rental income, the resulting loss (negative gearing) can be deducted from your other income.

- Property management fees
- Council rates, water charges, land tax
- Insurance premiums
